Events In Historic Old Town Pocatello
First Friday Art Walk 5:00-8:00pm First Friday of Each Month Old Town is alive with crowds of visitors on the first Friday of each month. Don't miss this opportunity to view art by local artists. The walk begins on Main St. and includes over fifteen businesses some with art on display, some with the artist on hand and some providing a live demonstration. Refreshments are available at each stop. You will also find live music along the way. All local residents and visitors are welcome. There is no charge to attend this monthly event. Art Walk guides are available at each location the day of the event or contact the Old Town Pocatello office. ***Please Note: The July 2008 ArtWalk will be the second Friday, July 11th due to the 4th of July holiday! First Friday Coffeehouse First Congregational Church 309 N. Garfield Ave. 7:30pm First Friday of Each Month Be sure to visit the First Congregational Church on the first Friday of each month for the First Friday Coffeehouse. Beginning at 7:30pm, right as the First Friday Art Walk is winding down, local, regional and national acoustic musicians perform in the church hall. The general public is invited to attend. A small donation of $4 per person is requested and refreshments are available for purchase. Half of the proceeds from these monthly concerts go to the musicians and the other half is donated to local non-profit agencies such as Family Services Alliance, Aid for Friends and the Idaho Food Bank.
Bike to Work Kickoff North 400 Block Union Pacific Avenue Parking Lot Old Town Pocatello behind the Pavilion 7:00am Thursday, May 1st, 2008 Join us for the Ribbon Cutting to kick off Portneuf Valley Bike to Work Month. You can register for the month long Employee Challenge, meet fellow bikers, learn about how to protect the environment, pick up some food for the road, as well as other great stuff. In addition, there will be activities going on throughout the month including a Bike Parade, a party at Portneuf Valley Brewing, and Bike Tours leaving from the Old Town Pavilion every Wednesday night in May beginning the 14th. Opening Day of the 2008 Southeast Idaho Farmers Market & Community Wide Cleanup Day Old Town Pavilion 8:00am Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 Beginning at 8:00am, Old Town Pocatello along with community volunteers will again host a free breakfast for you to enjoy before going out to help clean up our community. Community Wide Cleanup will kick off at 9:15am. People from all over Pocatello and Chubbuck will come out to clean up our community after a long and windy winter. To register to clean a specific area of town, call the Greater Pocatello Chamber of Commerce at 233-1525. In addition, don't miss the opening of the Southeast Idaho Farmers Market 2008 season. They will have some early crops and many unique and beautifully handcrafted items. There will be live entertainment and opening ceremonies to begin another summer season in Old Town. 2008 Governor's Conference on Recreation & Tourism Opening Day of the Revive @ 5 Summer Concert Series featuring Pre-Show of the Yard Dogs Road Show & Vagabond Opera & SwingShift Bike to Work Bike Parade Old Town Pavilion Pre-Show Yard Dogs 4:00pm Revive @ 5 SwingShift 5:00pm - 8:00pm Bike to Work Bike Parade 6:00pm Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 What a great way to begin the summer at the Pavilion. Beginning at 4:00pm, attendees of the 2008 Governor's Conference will come to the Pavilion for the first Revive @ 5 of the 2008 season. As part of their tour, they will stop in Old Town Pocatello to see what great progress we've made in recent years. Then, they will be our special guests at a preview show of the Yard Dogs Road Show and Vagabond Opera. We're honored to host the attendees of the Conference and wanted to give them a taste of our colorful Pocatello history in this rare appearance by the Yard Dogs. Their unique style of 1920's European Cabaret is going to be a treat for us all! Then, the wonderful local sounds of SwingShift will entertain the after hours crowd beginning at 5PM. The Bannock Civitans enjoyed bringing area residents the perfect after work event last year and decided to start even earlier this year - rain or shine! In addition, to help promote Portneuf Valley Bike to Work Month, we will be hosting the 2008 Bike Parade beginning from the Pavilion at 6PM. Last year we had some 200 riders donning their helmets and enjoying a ride through Pocatello with prizes and activities before and after the parade to enjoy. Pocatello's Historic Preservation Commission Event for National Historic Preservation Month PV's Pasta & Vino 138 N. Main Street, Old Town Pocatello 4:00pm - 8:00pm Thursday, May 22nd, 2008 The Pocatello Historic Preservation Commission is having an event to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month with an informative seminar on grants for facade improvements in the Downtown Historic District, an awards ceremony for local acts of Historic Preservation, and a Tour of the Whitman's progress. The event will begin at 4:00pm and feature hors d'oeuvres and a no host bar. The awards ceremony begins at 5:30pm and the tour will begin at 6:30pm. The tour is $5 per person and will be an informative and inspirational meeting of the minds to see what's possible in the marriage between sustainable designs and renewable resources. All are welcome to join in the events; tickets are available for the Whitman Tour at the reception and awards ceremony, by calling 234-6500, or at the City of Pocatello offices of Planning and Development.
Poker Ride at the Pavilion & Showcase of Local Bands Old Town Pavilion 10:00am - 10:00pm Saturday, June 7th, 2008 Registration opens at 10am for the first ever Poker Ride at the Pavilion. Riders and Hikers will be escorted by the Pocatello Police for their adventure up the City Creek trails to complete their poker cards at various points throughout the route. Upon returning, they turn in these cards to obtain their poker hand and hopefully win! There is even an opportunity for ambitious participants to gain a wild card. There will be activities for the whole family to enjoy throughout the event with raffles, swag bags, vendor booths and demonstrations, a kids' race, and bike rodeo. Then, beginning at 2:00pm we will host a showcase of local talent featuring bands from all over the region and in many different genres. This will be the perfect way to wind down after your wild excursion of the morning. Food and beverages will be available throughout the day and fun activities are planned. Make a Wish Walk for Wishes Old Town Pavilion 8:30am - 12:00pm Saturday, June 14th, 2008 The Make a Wish Foundation grants wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Old Town is hosting a 5K fun walk to raise money for this worthy cause. Registration for the walk opens at 8:30am and kick off is at 9:00am. The average cost to grant a child’s wish is $5,500 and our goal is to fulfill two childrens' wishes. Last year our Idaho Chapter granted 68 wishes. All proceeds raised will benefit local children suffering from these illnesses. 25th Army Band Special Revive @ 5 Summer Concert Old Town Pavilion 5:00pm - 8:00pm Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 Residents in Pocatello and Chubbuck really appreciate the extremely talented traveling military bands that we've featured in Old Town in previous years. So in response to your requests, we've invited this talented group from Boise and they've graciously accepted. 2008 Endurance Festival Old Town Pavilion 5:00pm - 8:00pm Friday, September 26th, 2008 8:00am - 5:00pm Saturday, September 27th, 2008 The Endurance Festival is a celebration of endurance events brought together for an amazing weekend of fun, camaraderie and personal challenge. The weekend highlights endurance event competitions and fun challenges on the road and on the trail (off-road). Events on the road include the The Run 5K and 10K, Get Cyc’d 100 road cycling 50K and 100K, and the I Du duathlon. The off-road events consist of the Trek to the Top of a peak by trail running and/or hiking, Bike to the Top mountain biking, the Peak Two Peak off-road duathlon, and the special Kids to the Top event for ages 5-12.
